Top-grain full-grain cowhide; fully vegetable-tanned, with texture created by natural drum-softening.
Features
- Thickness 2.5–3.8 mm / 6.25–9.5 oz. Irregular 3 and 5 square-foot pieces; the source rounds the areas to 2700 and 4500 cm². 1 piece from a half/cross cut; multiple orders are shipped together.
- 10 colors: black, coffee tone, brown, red, olive green, royal blue, white, yellow, golden brown and natural. Free skiving down to 0.8 mm or above is arranged for material up to 40 cm wide.
- The natural drum-tumbling process creates an irregular lychee-type grain without mechanical embossing. The face is smooth, the back has a soft suede feel, the fibers are dense and elastic, and it is rich in natural oils; with use it darkens and develops a vintage sheen.
- A—the neck area has natural wrinkles, suited to a rugged style; B—the back is densely fibrous with even weathering texture; C—the belly is softer/more elastic with a coarser grain, suited for lining; D—the rump is dense and usually smooth, with few marks.
- For handcrafting, tool tooling, stamping, stitching, carving and hobby projects. Because the surface is not later hidden with repair/coating, scars, scratches, vein marks, wrinkles, color variation and growth lines may naturally show; lighting/screen also changes the perceived color. Large custom pieces can be arranged.
- The cutting diagram indicates that a cross-section piece is separated from half of the full hide, and it is not possible to choose which anatomical section you receive. Specific length requirements are arranged before ordering. There may be a loose-fiber area at the belly edge.
