Schulthess manufactures washing and drying equipment in Switzerland. Its roots go back to a workshop founded in Zurich in 1845. Headquartered in Cham, with Swiss production in Wolfhausen, it offers professional and domestic products.
History
Schulthess's roots go back to a workshop opened by Kaspar Schulthess in Zurich in 1845. Initial operations involved metalwork for construction. In 1904, the first washing unit was built. In 1917, a production building was acquired in Wolfhausen. In 1949, punch-card control was developed. In 1951, a domestic washing machine was introduced. These milestones show the workshop's transformation into a washing-technology manufacturer.
In 2011, Schulthess became part of the NIBE group. In 2019, Helvetica Capital and management representatives joined the new ownership structure. In 2022, NIBE sold an additional twenty-six percent stake. The current Helvetica presentation shows the business under Swiss control. Product and service expansion also included the acquisition of laundry businesses in the UK. In 2020, the Permatech dosing business was added to the group.
In 2022 Schulthess's head office moved to Cham. Production remained in Wolfhausen under the name Schulthess Produktion AG. That year a stake in Italy's GMP business was acquired. This acquisition strengthened its position in flatwork ironing. The current portfolio includes proLine professional machines and washMaster digital services. Washing equipment is complemented by dosing and other laundry solutions. Domestic and professional applications are offered separately within the same group.
