HOBART

History

Hobart was founded in Troy, Ohio, in 1897. The business developed around professional kitchen and food retail equipment. The acquisition of Crescent in 1926 was an important milestone in dishwashing. The first Hobart-branded dishwasher was introduced during that period. The company's history thus developed around foodservice equipment, as distinct from textile washing.

In 1953, a continuous-conveyor dishwasher was developed. In 1960, production began in Offenburg, Germany. This stage is linked to the acquisition of K. Martin's dishwashing division. In 1980, the Elgersweier plant was commissioned. In 1999, it became part of the Hobart ITW group. The German division's official history records this integration separately. The US website confirms the current ITW affiliation.

In 2007, the PREMAX dishwashing line was introduced. In 2011, an international R&D center was set up in Offenburg. Today's portfolio includes dishwashing and food-preparation equipment. Baking, packaging and waste-processing products are also offered. In North America, the Hobart Service technical network operates. This network also services other ITW kitchen brands. Therefore the number of service staff should not be equated with the manufacturer's own separate employee count.
