Awl made of No. 55 high-carbon steel and ebony wood, with an updated brass ferrule.
Features
- Approx. 10 cm / 4 in, 1 selected awl per package. Diamond S—for a 3 mm punch, tip width 2–2.1 mm; M—for 4 mm, 2.5–2.6; L—for 5 mm, 3 mm. Round awl diameter 2 mm.
- A fixed mirror-polished needle; the flat-sided thread end helps intuitive orientation. The fine diamond profile is shown for compatibility with Vergez Blanchard, Amy Roke and KS Blade holes.
- For the S tip, an overall leather thickness of 5–6 oz is recommended. Polish the tip frequently with green compound/sandpaper; pressing hard with a dull tip and side force can cause breakage. Support the open needle with your index finger while working.
- For quiet piercing with a marking wheel, saddle stitching, fully passing an initial diamond hole through thick leather, and lightly widening an existing stitch hole.
- In the new combined diagram, the wooden handle is 66 mm, the brass part 20 mm; the S/M/L diamond needle is 25 mm long with a matching width of 2/2.5/3 mm; the round needle is 42 mm long × 2 mm diameter.
- The older individual cards give: S overall 102 mm/needle 17 mm; M 103/17 mm; L 104/18 mm; round 115/30 mm. The thread-end width is 25 mm, and a measurement variance of 0.5–2 cm is stated; these don't match the new diagram's dimensions.
- The gallery shows, besides the single tool, an S+M+L diamond trio, an S+M+round trio, and an S+M+L+round quartet.
