WUTA French Edger — M390 / DC53
Leather skiving and edge beveling knife
Brand: WUTA
French edger with an M390 or DC53 steel blade, a teardrop-shaped ebony handle, and an H62 brass ferrule; for both hands.

Features
- Hardness is given as HRC 60; for general thinning and processing of convex/broken sections and special areas. The base thickness in the CNC channel is 0.35 mm, with hand convex sharpening aimed at reducing forward resistance.
- Width/weight: 4 mm—46.6 g / 1.64 oz; 6 mm—47.1 g / 1.66 oz; 8 mm—49.6 g / 1.75 oz; 10 mm—53.6 g / 1.89 oz.
- M390 offers wear resistance and, thanks to its chromium content, rust resistance, plus long edge retention; it can be sharpened thinner. The source states that high hardness doesn't mean very high impact toughness. For DC53, toughness and edge-recovery ability are emphasized alongside hardness.
- Sharpening less often preserves the blade material; over-sharpening thickens the back of the edge. The H62 ring is presented with a claim of retaining shine for 1 month when exposed.
- At the matching width, cut a thick leather strip and apply polishing compound to prepare a strop. Hold the blade low and draw it repeatedly in one direction with even force; use a stone for resharpening. Polishing after each use is recommended.
- Per the image, overall length is 140 mm, the blade section 55 mm, and the bevel angle 20°. The base section thickness is given as 0.75 mm, with a 0.35 mm parallel bottom surface. For both steel types, 4+6, 6+8 and 4+10 mm pairs, and a 4+6+8+10 mm quad option, are described separately.
- Wide skivers are shown only for medium-firmness leather; not recommended for skiving soft leather. The 4 mm size is for thinning, cutting and beveling the edges and folded/bent areas of 4 mm vegetable-tanned leather; the 6 mm for edge thinning/cutting/beveling; the 8 and 10 mm additionally for thinning the entire surface of small leather pieces.
- In the pictured sharpening, compound is applied to a leather strip of matching width and thickness; the blade is drawn back several times resting flat against the polishing leather. Then the blade is flipped and the bevel is worked against the compound-coated strip, repeating the same draw. The DC53 image notes impact resistance and easier sharpening; the M390 image notes wear/corrosion resistance and long edge retention.
