WUTA DC53 French Pricking Iron
French pricking iron with standard and reverse teeth
Brand: WUTA
Fully polished stitching tool made of DC53 cold-work die steel.

Features
- Model 7: 3.85 mm pitch, 2/8 teeth, tooth width 2.4 mm. Model 8: 3.38 mm, 2/8 teeth, width 2.2 mm. Model 9: 3 mm, 2/5 teeth, width 1.8 mm. Model 10: 2.7 mm, 2/5 teeth, width 1.6 mm.
- Single-tooth S — matches 9/10, M — matches 7/8, used in both directions; some listings use L instead of M. Overall 116 mm, shaft width 13 mm, shaft thickness 8.2 mm, tooth 9.8 mm, tip lip 0.2 mm.
- The normal mark slants up from left to right, the reverse mark slants downward. The text gives 4.5 mm / 11 oz for going through, and 5 mm / 12.5 oz theoretically, but recommends not punching leather thicker than 3 mm in one pass for tool longevity — work each side separately with the normal/reverse tool.
- The blunt hexagonal conical tooth punches by compression; the rounded shaft edge is meant to reduce thread friction/fraying. Use less force on the 2-tooth tool, since the same force can leave a deeper/larger mark.
- Hold the nylon mallet close to the head; a soft leather mat, thick cutting mat and a 4–5 cm-thick table are recommended. Pull straight out, without levering sideways. 1/2 teeth for corners/short distances, 5–20 teeth for straight lines; align with the previous hole when continuing.
- Clean the teeth/shaft after use; oil and put in a sealed bag for long-term storage. Single tool or paired set options exist; there's also a separate line at 1.92–6.75 mm/20-tooth.
- The V3 comparison chart gives tooth width for №7/8 as 2 mm and for №9/10 as 1.8 mm, differing from the older text's 2.4/2.2/1.8/1.6 mm sequence. The new chart gives the tooth as 10 mm and tip thickness 0.3 mm; the old text gives 9.8 and 0.2 mm. Back bevel 1.5 mm, edge bevel 0.5 mm, surface brushed steel color.
- The overall V3 chart gives pitch for №14/13/12/11/10/9/8/7/unnamed/6/5/4 as 1.92/2.07/2.25/2.45/2.7/3/3.38/3.85/4/4.5/5.4/6.75 mm; tooth width as 1.6/1.6/1.6/1.8/1.8/1.8/2/2/2/2.2/2.2/2.4 mm. This comparison also covers other variants.
- In the chart, every model has a length of 116 mm, shaft width 13 mm, tooth length 10 mm, tip 0.3 mm, back/edge bevel 1.5/0.5 mm. Shaft thickness is 8.2 mm, except 10 mm for the 20-tooth tool. Single-tooth S is 1.8 mm, M is 2 mm; the 20-tooth tool has 1.8/2 mm tooth width at 3/3.38/3.85 mm pitch; the adjustable tool gives a 2–6 mm pitch and 2 mm tooth width.
- Recommended thread: 0.35 mm at 1.92–2.45 mm pitch; 0.45 at 2.7/3 mm; 0.55 at 3.38; 0.65 at 3.85/4/4.5; 0.8 at 5.4; 0.8–1 mm at 6.75. A separate stitching sample shows 3.85 mm pitch with 0.55 mm thread.
- The application chart gives fine pitches for watch straps and small hangers, 2.7 mm for wallets/card holders, 3 mm for wallets/small bags, 3.38 mm for medium bags/belts, 3.85–4.5 mm for large bags, and 5.4–6.75 mm for very large/tool bags. Watch-strap examples note up to 18 mm width for a 2.7 mm pitch and at least 18 mm width for a 3 mm pitch.
- In linen-thread examples, Fil Au Chinois #832 is matched to 2.7 mm pitch, #632 to 3 mm, #532 to 3.38 mm, and #432 to 3.85 mm. The photo shows a punching-through example at 4 mm; the text's 3 mm recommendation for longevity remains.
- The gallery also shows separate 8-tooth and 2+8 options at 2.7 and 3 mm. One older card for the standard 3.38 mm set reads 2+5, while the tool photo and a newer card read 2+8. S/M single-tooth pieces are selected separately; some box photos' L marking doesn't match the title.
