Features
- The title shows a 1.92–6.75 mm pitch family. Heat treatment, precise machining and hand/mirror polishing from shaft to teeth; makes removing the tool from the leather easier.
- A blunt-tipped hexagonal conical tooth compresses material to punch the hole; the rounded edge is designed to reduce thread friction, fraying and pulling, for a double-wave stitch. DC53 is chosen for resistance to impact, deformation, rust and tooth breakage.
- With the straight tooth, holes and the stitch mark slant //// one way; with the reverse tooth, the opposite way. Punching through leather thicker than 3 mm in one pass isn't recommended; work each side separately with the straight/reverse tools. Pull the tool straight up, without tilting sideways.
- Hold the nylon mallet close to the head; don't apply excessive force to the fine sharp tip. The source shows a 4–5 cm-thick table, a thickened WUTA cutting mat, and a soft protective material like leather.
- The V-shaped cone tooth is wide at the top and narrow at the tip: a 2-tooth tool can cut a deeper/larger hole than an 8-tooth tool at the same force, so reduce force and practice first with the 2-tooth tool.
- Clean the teeth/shaft after each use, especially hand-sweat marks. For long-term storage and rainy periods, wipe with an oiled cotton cloth and keep in a zip bag.
- The manufacturer states that since November 2024 there's been a logo and minor design change, that old/new shapes give a similar punch result, and that stock may ship mixed. Box packaging may also vary by stock.
- The technical drawing gives all models an overall length of 116 mm, tooth length of 10 mm, tooth-tip thickness of 0.3 mm, back bevel of 1.5 mm, and edge bevel of 0.5 mm. The surface is steel-colored and brushed.
- Set A: adjustable 2-tooth + 2.7 and 3.0 mm 8-tooth tools; Set B: adjustable 2-tooth + 3.38 and 3.85 mm 8-tooth tools; Set C: adjustable 2-tooth + an 8-tooth tool at each of these four pitches. All are in the obverse direction.
- For a watch strap, 2.7 mm pitch is recommended under 18 mm width and 3.0 mm over 18 mm; the exact 18 mm boundary itself isn't separately specified. A Mini Kelly bag example uses 3.38 mm, belt and bag examples use 3.85 mm. A nylon mallet and punching mat are recommended.
- The new manufacturer chart shows a 3rd generation with 12 sizes across a 1.92–6.75 mm range. Set contents depend on the chosen variant.
