Features
- Vegetable tanned; presented by the manufacturer as suitable for direct skin contact and more environmentally friendly. Natural color and leather smell, a breathable pored grain surface, and an even flesh side; no artificial surface alteration.
- Initial thickness 1.8–2.4 mm / 4.5–6 oz, ±0.2 mm variance; any thickness can be chosen. 1 piece per package, multiple orders ship in one package. The source gives 1 square foot ≈ 900 cm²; custom sizing should be confirmed before ordering.
- Absorbs water, so it can be wet-molded, dyed, carved, pressed, tooled and laser-engraved. Oily/dense fibers resist cracking when folded.
- For wallets, handbags, notebook covers, coasters, straps, holsters, knife sheaths, pet collars and pyrography. The edge can be polished using only water dampening, without dye, coating or CMC.
- Being cut from a whole hide, scratches, scars, natural grain, small holes and wrinkles are possible. Contact support if there's a quality issue.
- The comparison photo gives initial thickness as 1.8–2.6 mm, while the main text and selection table give 1.8–2.4 mm. The initial back surface may show a mesh mark from processing; the surface split to 1.0/1.5/2.0 mm is shown as flatter and more even. The claim that the dense back fibers don't tear easily is the manufacturer's own.
- Size photos show 10×20, 22×26, 30×30 and 30×60 cm rectangles, as well as irregular 1/3/5 square-foot pieces. The irregular cut sample is 33.5×27 cm; this size is not fixed for all pieces.
- Per the photo, approximate usage (not counting waste): card holder/small pouch ≤1 sq ft, recommended purchase 1 sq ft or 30×30 cm; short wallet/passport cover/small bag 1–2, recommended 2 sq ft or 30×60 cm; long wallet/clutch/cosmetics and pen case 2–3, recommended 3 sq ft; belt/shoulder/messenger/saddle bag 3–5, recommended 3/4/5 sq ft; large hand and waist bags 5–15, recommended 5 sq ft, whole hide or several 5 sq ft pieces. These are examples for typical construction; the design, skill and cutting loss will change actual usage.
- Thickness guidance: bag/waist-bag flap/front/back/side/bottom panels usually 1.8–2.5 mm (4.5–6.25 oz), select initial 1.8–2.4 or 2.0 mm; wallet/card-holder/coin-purse main panels 1.5–2.0 mm (3.75–5 oz), select 1.5 or 2.0 mm; divider/card layer/inner pocket/lining 0.8–1.2 mm (2–3 oz), select 1.0 mm. The 0.5 mm layer in the comparison is not a separate variant.
- The edge comparison shows untreated, water-only, Tokonole-treated and clear Italian edge-coating samples; smoothing the edge with water and a wood slicker is possible. Patina samples after 1 month, 3 months and 3 years show darkening/shine; neatsfoot oil is said to speed this process, though the same color result at the same time isn't guaranteed.
- Natural marks shown in photos include scars, loose grain, wrinkles, stains, small scratches and knife cuts. One general promo icon reads French Calfskin, while the main product is given as natural full-grain cowhide; a French origin is not treated as a separately confirmed feature.
