An adjustable grooving tool with an M390 steel blade, an H62 brass body/ring and an ebony handle.
Features
- Interchangeable 1/1.5/2 mm heads; blade hardness 61 HRC. The L-guide is 440C steel, heat-treated to 55 HRC; the square guide and slot reduce slipping during use.
- For right- or left-handed use; the channel distance from the edge is adjustable. M390 steel's wear resistance, rust resistance and edge retention are noted; it can be wiped and protected with machine oil.
- Grooving the front of a stitch line protects the thread from friction before piercing; grooving the back lets the leather be stitched after marking/pressing with an edger or bone tool. The source gives 1/1.5/2 mm as front-side depth and back-side width; actual width/depth is set to match the thread thickness.
- Also used for creating an even width guide when thinning leather, and for forming a more natural fold at a bend.
- Dimensioned image: overall length 158 mm, shank diameter 10 mm, metal section 58 mm; interchangeable cutting heads 26 mm, L-guide 33×33 mm. A 1–2 mm hand-measurement variance is noted.
- For assembly, the cutting head is fitted in place and its screw tightened; then the L-guide is fitted, the distance set, and the second screw tightened.
