A second-generation round hole tool made of 4Cr13 steel; not compatible with diamond, olive or French hexagonal heads.
Features
- 3/3.38/3.85/4/5/6 mm steps. The same-type teeth swap out or are replaced with a round-cutting head; 2nd- and 3rd-generation round teeth fit the 2nd-generation handle.
- The tooth-tip diameter is given as about 0.8 mm in one place and 1 mm in the next paragraph; the round-hole head is given as 1–1.3 mm. The measurement method's difference is noted.
- A piercing tooth draws the leather in, leaving a small mark; the cutting round head removes material for a larger, easier-to-stitch hole. Small holes are shown for reversed stitching and turned bags, larger holes for a rougher style.
- Alongside saddle stitching: single, Z, baseball/V, edge-to-edge, cross, box and French stitch; for steering wheel covers, large leather goods, sofa/seat covers. Black smooth electroplated surface, with a debris outlet.
- The package is a single tool or a selected set. Do not apply excessive force to the fine sharp tip; use a soft leather backing, as a hard surface can damage the tip.
- The spec card shows 420 martensitic stainless steel, heat-treated hardening, anti-rust blackening, and laser size marking. The toothless body is 105 mm, thickness 6.5 mm; the described narrow/medium/wide bodies are 14/23/38 mm wide. Size variance can be 0.5–1 mm.
- The old pointed head is 16 mm long, tip 1 mm, seat 2.5 mm; the other round head is 20 mm long, tip 1.5 mm, seat 2.5 mm. The 1st generation is not compatible with a 2.4 mm seat. The 2nd generation lacks the 3rd generation's shape socket; hexagonal/diamond/olive heads do not fit this tool.
- 2nd- and 3rd-generation round piercing teeth ship mixed at random: in the comparison, the old one's mark is about 0.8 mm, the new one's 1–1.3 mm. Other sample cards call the piercing tooth 1 mm and the cutting head 1.3 mm; no single fixed hole diameter is assumed.
- Illustrated combinations: at 3 mm, 2+10 and 2+5+10 teeth; at 3.38 mm, 2+9 and 2+5+9 teeth, with an extra 20 hollow heads per package. At 3.85 and 4 mm, the 2+6-tooth set gives 10, the 2+4+6 set gives 20 extra hollow heads. At 5 and 6 mm, the 2+6 set gives 10 heads.
- Individual tool photos show a matching number of hollow heads and an L-wrench for the 2/4/5/6/9/10-tooth tools; not every tooth count is intended for every step. There are also separate packages of 20 and 60 piercing teeth, 20 and 60 hollow heads, or a mixed 40+40 head package.
- In use, a vertical strike with a nylon mallet, a thick cutting board, and not applying excessive force to the sharp tip are shown. To change heads, loosen the screw with the L-wrench, remove the head, fit the new one and tighten the screw.
