Features
- 20 holes open in a single strike; 3.0/3.38/3.85 mm step spacings come in normal and reverse-slant versions. Recommended thread: 0.45–0.55 mm for 3.0 mm; 0.5–0.65 mm for 3.38; 0.55–0.8 mm for 3.85 mm.
- Polishing from the shank to the teeth makes withdrawal from the leather easier. A hexagonal cone and blunt tip form the hole by compressing the leather; the rounded edge helps reduce thread friction, fraying and stretching.
- Hold a nylon mallet close to the head; direct punching of leather thicker than 3 mm is not recommended, for the tool's longevity. Since 20 teeth divide the force, more force and 5 or more strikes may be needed compared with a 2- or 8-tooth tool.
- For fine tips, use soft leather and a thick cutting board; a 4–5 cm marble slab underneath is recommended. Clean the teeth/shank after each use; for long-term storage or humid seasons, wipe with anti-rust oil and store in a sealed bag.
- In the V3.0 spec chart, the 20-tooth column gives: overall length 116 mm, shank width 13 mm, shank thickness 10 mm, tooth length 10 mm, tooth width 1.8/2 mm, tip thickness 0.3 mm, back bevel 1.5 mm, edge bevel 0.5 mm; brushed-steel surface.
- The image notes a transition between the old and new shapes, and that the two designs may ship mixed at random. A 3 mm step is shown on a saddle strap wider than 18 mm, and 3.38 mm on a wallet/card-holder sample.
- For leather thicker than 3 mm, separate normal/reverse punching and pulling the tool straight out without tilting are emphasized in the illustrated instructions.
