- Hold perpendicular to the leather, start with a light strike, then per the source strike to a depth of 0.5–1 mm; continue if not fully cut through. Additional metal-hammer strikes are recommended in one place for sizes larger than 8 × 8 mm and in another for larger than 3 × 10 mm.
- Do not apply excessive force to the fine sharp point. Use a soft protective backing like leather, not a hard nylon board.
- Wipe off the protective oil before first use; re-oil after use and store in a dry, ventilated place.
