Biomass energy systems run on forest residue, energy forest products, agricultural and livestock waste, household waste and energy crops. Gasification systems produce syngas from solid waste; the gas is cleaned and burned in gas engines to generate electricity. In plasma technologies, biomass and industrial waste are melted at very high temperature, and the resulting gas is used to generate heat and electricity. The solid residue left over from the process is valued as organic fertilizer.
